Mediterranean which met bi-annually in a different Euro-
pean country. One such meeting was organised here on
this very campus. It is a great source of satisfaction to see
the continuing of firm international relations and all the
Deparments of the Faculty of Fine Arts taking part in in-
ternational activities and displaying their artistic products.
International conferences have always been important but
they are more so at present which is a time of globalisati-
on and digital technologies. They are important develop-
ments but they may become misleading with their deman-
ds for uniformity and consumerist approaches, which may
have possible negative results hindering creativity and
artistic development. On the other hand, with internatio-
nal get togethers artists and scientists have the opportu-
nity to meet individuals from different societies, establish
cultural contacts and develop personal sensibilities out of
these contacts. Thus they may have the possibility of over-
coming the negative outcomes of globalisation and digital
technologies which seem to overlook the human factor.
Therefore I am of the opinion that international conferen-
ces or symposia are commendable activities contibuting
tothe development and continuation of arts and sciences
without forgetting their human aspect.
Once again I would like to congratulate the organisers of
this symposium for the invaluable work they have put into
it.
Thank you,
Prof.Dr. Gülsen Canlı
